As our story begins, young Nellie is earning her taps as a singer/dancer in a little club somewhere very far off Broadway. She has worked her way up from the chorus line ... but just barely.
Someone Who Will Prove To Be Important happens to walk in as she's doing her one not-so-bad number, and is enchanted. There could be a future for that kid!
This was written and arranged to be a 1920s style music hall novelty... or at least 1940s Hollywood's idea of one, as it might appear in a wartime musical being performed by Linda Darnell.

i'm a graduate of note
I've picked up my diploma
And I've registered to vote
I've signed up for my passport
And my driver's license too
